The Commonwealth Games are under 12 weeks away, and netballer injuries are mounting. Glasgow 2026 organisers have confirmed to Planet Netball their deadline for netball squad submissions.

Suncorp Super Netball has recently seen the post-injury return of New Zealand Silver Fern Maddy Gordon (pictured), however the loss of a fledgeling Australian Diamond to a foot fracture comes in the form of Lucy Austin. Helen Housby is a notable England international currently not playing due to a back injury, while three-time major gold medalist Paige Hadley could be a question mark on the Diamonds team-sheet following the birth of her child in March.
For Jamaica, it understandably remains to be seen if Jhaniele Fowler Nhembard will be fit to take to the court having given birth in April, and while Shimona Nelson is playing extremely well, her absence from the Australia vs Jamaica series in February is unexplained.
Meanwhile in the northern hemisphere, several teams in the Netball Super League have relied on Next Gen reserves to step up to senior teams. South Africa’s Sanmarie Visser looks to be fit for selection following a few weeks out, but for England, promising goal keeper Jaz Brown is definitely ruled out, whilst neither Ellie Rattu nor Razia Quashie will play the rest of the domestic season casting doubt over their inclusion for international netball in July.
With several other Roses players returning to form after either giving birth or following injury rehab, selectors must decide from a variety of up-and-coming options meaning that the weeks leading up to the Games will be crucial in determining player selection.
Timeline
Glasgow 2026 organisers have stated that squad sizes will be 12 athletes per team. They also added that:
“Teams are typically permitted to name non-travelling reserves in addition to the official 12. These reserves are not accredited athletes and are not expected to travel to Glasgow unless formally activated as a replacement.
“Replacements into the official 12 are permitted up until the Technical Meeting which will take place on 22 July.”
22 July Netball Technical meeting (deadline for naming replacements)
23 July Opening Ceremony
25 July First netball game
The fact that the Technical meeting is as late as possible allows those assessing fitness, form, and recovery the chance to put forward their best available players, just one day before the Games begin.
