Netball Australia has formally opened Expressions of Interest for those keen to secure ownership of a new Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) team, as the governing body explores the potential expansion of the country’s elite competition.

The process, announced today, will run in parallel with the Netball Australia Board’s ongoing assessment of whether and when to grow the league.

The move represents a key step in delivering Netball Australia’s long-term SSN growth strategy and aligns closely with its 10-year strategic vision, Made in Netball, which centres on strengthening the sport’s national footprint and commercial sustainability. While the Board has not yet confirmed expansion, its endorsement of the strategic intent signals that the organisation is seriously evaluating opportunities to add two new teams as early as the 2027 season.

NA CEO Stacey West said the Expression of Interest process is being launched from a position of strength. Pointing to the league’s surging metrics, West highlighted the 2025 season’s achievements:

  • record attendance of 388,455 across the year,

  • a sold-out Grand Final crowd of 15,013, and

  • a 23% uplift in Foxtel Group streaming numbers during the finals.

“As we look toward the next era, it is vital that any expansion is strategic, sustainable and aligned with the long-term vision of Australian netball...Investing in women’s sport presents a dynamic space for innovation, growth and purpose.”

The process will analyse the capability, financial viability and strategic fit of potential owners, as well as their proposed team locations.

Private ownership groups, existing SSN clubs, cross-code organisations and hybrid consortia are all eligible to apply.
